Full of little tricks not only about HS, but
also things you did not know about Microsoft and Your Computer
Click on the ‘Stats’ icon. This is where tournament results are
entered for players. It is from this table that stats are picked up,
to send to NatStats. Also if you are running a tournament with
HSMaster, when the tournament is posted, the stats are added to this
table, then you can export the stats, and send them to your state
statistician. If he is running HSMaster, he can import them so he
has the tournament on file. Then he can turn around, and export them
Before you can enter stats for a player, the tournament must be on file in HSMaster. You can add tournaments by clicking on Tournaments\Setup. Refer to further documentation regarding entering a tournament.
The left-hand grid has two columns, LastName and FirstName. This is a master list of all of the players that are in the HSMaster database. The ‘Fast Find’ column is the LastName column. This is a read-only grid, therefore it is always in ‘Fast Find’ mode. Remember that the ‘Fast Find’ is a multi key find, so for John Smith you can type in S or SM or SMI etc. This ‘Fast Find’ is on a timer, so if you type too slowly, when you type the second letter ‘M’ in Smith, it may end up going to the ‘M’s instead of the ‘SM’s. You may want to experiment with it a bit to see the behavior.
When you find the player that you want to Add stats for, press <Enter>, or double click to enable the right hand grid.
Now you will see all of the tournaments on file for this player. In my database, I keep all of the tournaments on file for about two years. There are options elsewhere in HSMaster to purge old tournaments. Although I am not the state statistician, I like to keep all in-state players tournaments on file, so that when I run a tournament, the player’s entry average is available. That way I only have to go to the NHPA web site, to get entry averages for the out of state players.
Note that the focus column is the ‘Sanction’ column. This is the sanction number of the tournament that you are trying to enter the stats for. The ‘Cat’ column which is the category for the player is implied, base on the players category. However it can be changed if necessary. The reason that the category is stored with the tournament score, is that when a player moves from one category to another, his statistics at the other pitching distance can no longer be used to compute his average. This allows those tournaments to be invalidated.
After you have added stats for the first player, in the AddNew row, you can either press <Enter> to enter the data into the database, or just double click on the next player to force the data into the database. When you select the next player to add his stats, the tournament, and the number of shoes will default from the previous player. This can be overridden of course, but is there to simplify data entry. Pressing <Esc> while in the right-hand grid, will move focus to the left hand grid.
This column is informational only. It is only there to fill space, and confirm that you have selected the player that you intended.
Cat (Player Category)
This column is defaulted from the Player profile category. It can be overridden if for some reason you had the players category set wrong at the time the tournament stats were entered.
Sanction (Tournament NHPA Sanction Number)
This is a dropdown list of tournaments from the tournament table. You will have to enter a tournament in the tournament table (Tournaments\Setup) before it will be available in this list. If you are entering more that one player’s stats, then the sanction number is defaulted from the previous player.
This is the number of shoes that were thrown by the player in the tournament.
This is the number of ringers that were thrown by the player in the tournament.
% (Ringer %)
This is a view only field that is automatically computed, and is just sort of a sanity check, to see if the Ringers/Shoes appears to be a valid %.
If you need to correct stats that have already been entered, you can do that also. The category, number of ringers, or number of shoes was entered incorrectly, just arrow down to that entry and make the changes.
If the wrong tournament sanction number was entered, then you will need to delete that entire entry, and redo.
Remember to delete, you need to be in ‘ColumnZero’ mode (entire row highlighted). That can be achieved by hitting the left arrow until entire row is highlighted. You will be prompted to confirm your deletion.
